More experimentation ...

My students are crying "Sir, our clay is drying out before we can finish!". I told them they take several class periods to do something which should take one. "You need to work faster!"
They bet me I couldn't work faster than them...

Wedged, cut, and assembled in about 25 minutes...teaching as I worked. Nice sized slab bottle sitting on a nine inch square plate. Next class period I'll smooth it out and decorate.

Finally!!!

The PO for my kiln is finally in the hands of the vendor!! He says my new Skutt 1227-3 kiln should be in my possession in the next 4-6 weeks!! The half ton of clay, 15 gallons of glazes, and various gloves, tongs, and tools should arrive within 2 weeks as well! Is this a GREAT Christmas or what?!?! Woooo Hooooo!!!

Kiln update...

The kiln purchase order has been input into the system, and the superintendent has tasked someone with pushing it through the process this week. If everything falls into place I should be installing my new Skutt 1227-3 sometime around the 2nd week of January! Now I just have to sort all the greenware into manageable kiln loads, and set up a tentative firing schedule. I foresee back-to-back firings for the first two to three weeks that we own this new kiln... and that's just for the bisque firings! I need to order some more glazes for my work, and I guess I'd better get set to mix some self leveling kiln wash...

Slab time!

The students have finally reached the slab plate assignment! I always enjoy this one because of the great stamping designs they come up with.
